More on algae oil

Seem like my last source was wrong. Algae is much more than 40 times more effective. See this video about algae oil and its benefits to understand why I say that ;-)

Algae Oil

As I am reading about getting rid of algae I also find a lot of info on the potential of algae as a biofuel. I think it is really interesting to see just how valuable and important algae can be in our future seeing as algae can produce 40 times more biofuel than crops used today, like corn, on the same farm area. I just hope that they role out this technique fast so that we can use cleaner and potentially cheaper energy soon. Below you will find a small video on just one of the many ways algae can be used to produce energy.

Info sites

I thought I would tell you a little about some great sites I have found while I have been searching for information on how to fight my algae problem. The site below are just some of the site I have visited and have chosen to spotlight them because they are some of the best sites around (according to me) if you searching for info pertaining to aquariums. You can find other good sites about algae in my blogroll. (when I find another good new site I'll add it.)

The first site I want to recommend is fishlore. It is a good site that has a lot of information about different aspects of fish keeping. IT is especially good if you are searching for information about saltwater fish.

Another site I want to recommend is tropical fish center. This is another great site.

I also like to recommend age of aquariums. This site is available in both English and Portuguese. It has info on a lot of species but the info is unfortunately often quite limited. This is place to go if you can´t find any info anywhere else. This or fishbase.

I have saved the best for last. Aquatic community! This is my favourite aquarium website. It has a lot of info on just about every aquarium related topic and if you can´t find the info you want they have a large very active friendly forum where you can get the answer to just about any question. Amatuers and pros alike can be found on the forum. You can visit this site by clicking here

My research have started

I have started reding up on algae control and found out that there are 3 different basic ways of controling algae. There is the biological method, the mechanical method and the chemical method. The chemical methods involves using chemicls to prevent algae growth and I am going to avoid using this method as possible as it can have negative effects on plants. The mechanical method involves filtering algae from the water. The biological method is the method that appeals to me the most at the moment. It involves making sure that you keep good water quality to limit algae growth an dusing algae eating animals to combat the algae. There are many types of algae eating animals suitable for the tropical fish tank including algae eating shrimps, fish and snails. I am of to research a suitable species for my tank now.
